Drift
In testing
Drift is a journal for maladaptive daydreaming, built for iOS in SwiftUI and SwiftData, with a companion Apple Watch app. When you notice an episode, you log it: what set it off, and where your attention went. Over time, Drift surfaces the patterns in what you've logged.
How it works
- Log an episode: when it happened, how long it lasted, and what triggered it, plus optional tags for theme, location, and emotion.
- Browse what you've logged and see plain-language observations — when episodes tend to happen, what tends to trigger them — once there's enough logged to show a pattern.
- Start a Stillness session if you want one: Drift watches your iPhone's or Apple Watch's step rate for a sustained increase during a session you start yourself, and asks whether to log it, dismiss it, or end the session. It only reads step rate.
- Turn on an optional daily reminder to check in.
What the research says
Research on maladaptive daydreaming is still early, and there's no single established treatment. Two threads come up often: self-monitoring — noticing and recording episodes, which is what Drift's logging is built around — and mindfulness-based approaches. Neither is guaranteed to help everyone, and Drift isn't a substitute for professional care.
Drift isn't a medical device and doesn't offer medical or therapeutic advice. If maladaptive daydreaming is affecting your life, consider talking with a licensed mental health professional.
Privacy
Everything you log in Drift — including from Apple Watch, if you use it — stays on your devices. There's no account, no server, and no analytics. Full details are in the privacy policy.
